Dota 2 is a real-time strategy with RPG (MOBA) elements for two or more players, which is a separate continuation of the DotA map for Warcraft III. The video game was developed by Valve Corporation and was released on July 9, 2013.
The game has more than a hundred heroes, many modes, online battle 5 by 5, the ability to explore the map and search for useful items and many more role-playing elements. The project is distributed according to the free-to-play model.
Dota 2 Development history
Game development starts in 2009 with the fact that Valve Corporation hired IceFrog (Abdul Ismail), a game designer, to work on Dota 2. The designer shared this in October on his blog.
October 13, 2010 Dota 2 was announced on the game portal Game Informer. Then the release of the game was planned for 2011. On August 15, 2011, the game trailer was published on the official blog.
Later, Valve filed for a trademark with the name "Dota 2". Gabe Newell, co-founder and CEO of Valve Corporation, noted that the trademark was needed to develop a sequel with an already recognizable name. Valve won a lawsuit with Blizzard and retained their rights to commercialize the name, but others received the right to use this name for non-commercial purposes.
The name "Dota" Valve took from the acronym of the original modification of the name of the newly acquired franchise (Defense of the Ancients). According to campaign spokesman Eric Johnson, the name means the concept of the game, because it is used in everyday speech and is not an acronym.
One of the first goals of the developers was the adaptation of Defense of the Ancients to the new game engine Source. The old names of the representatives of the parties “The Sentinel” and “The Scourge” have been replaced by “The Radiant” and “The Dire”. Hero names, artefacts, map design, and hero abilities have been changed due to the fact that some trademarks belonged to Blizzard.
The Source engine has received an update with a number of innovations, in particular with high-quality fabric modelling and improved lighting. Integration with the Steam client allowed users to interact with the Dota 2 community and synchronize personal settings using cloud data storage.
Worked on the development of the game: Half-Life screenwriter Mark Laidlaw, author of science fiction works Ted Kosmatka and Steam representative Chris Katz - they are the authors of the biographies of the heroes.
In April 2012, it became known that the game would be distributed as "free to play." In June, it was reported that all heroes and artifacts would be available to each player for free. And in the game store will be presented only additional items, in particular skins and weapons.
On July 9, 2013, Dota 2 officially released on Steam for Windows, and on the 18th of the same month, the project was released for Mac OS and Linux.
In November 2013, Valve added the Coaching system to the game, the ability to give tips to other players, watch Dota 2 matches live, conduct local competitions, and support the game through a local area network (LAN).
In July 2016, the ability to watch matches in virtual reality mode was added. In it, you can examine each hero in virtual reality.
Dota 2 Gameplay
Dota 2 is an online multiplayer game that has grown into an entire e-sports discipline, attractive not only to gamers but also to fans of esports betting.
The game includes two teams of five players who control their heroes. Today, there are more than 100 characters, and each of them has their own skills and levels that are directly related to experience in the game. The goal of the duel is to win by destroying the main building on the basis of the enemy.
Dota 2 works according to the free-to-play model with elements of micro transactions. The game combines both RTS and RPG features.
Players are divided into two teams that compete with each other. One team represents The Radiant, and the other represents The Dire. Each of them includes five players. One player controls one hero.
During the game, the hero can gain experience and, accordingly, increase his level. The game currency is gold that you need to earn during the game, but a player regularly receives a small amount of gold from his base. A little gold can be obtained for killing the enemy beast, more for killing heroes. You will also need to buy and collect items that boost the player or expand his circle of possibilities.
Each team takes its positions on the paylines, where there is a struggle with the enemy heroes and Creeps, which are controlled by the computer. Units appear on the bases of teams every half a minute. To defeat the enemy, you need to destroy the main building on the enemy base.
Dota 2 Heroes
Dota 2 has a lot of heroes. Each one looks different, each has its own story and unique skills. Heroes are divided into darkness and light, but you can choose any hero no matter which side you play for. Heroes are also divided according to the main characteristics: strength, agility and intelligence. All heroes have these characteristics, but for each point of the main attribute, the hero rises damage by 1.
Also for all heroes:
- Each strength point increases the maximum number of health points by 19.
- Each strength point increases the rate of health recovery by 0.03 per second.
- Every 7 points of agility increases armour by 1.
- Each point of agility increases attacking speed by 1.
- Each intelligence point increases the maximum number of mana points by 13.
- Each point of intelligence increases the speed of mana recovery by 0.04 per second.
Roles in Dota 2 are determined by the playing style of the hero, depending on his skills and features. Different roles are suitable for different characters, so they can act differently in different situations.
These are roles without this the team will be very difficult.
Cerry heroes are heroes who have to farm a lot, because highly dependent on items. Their potential is revealed closer to the late game (late stage of the game). Cerry is the main strength of the team. But it is impossible for the team to consist entirely of heroes of this type because they will interfere with each other to earn gold and experience. Better 2-3 well-pumped Cerry than 4-5 mediocre. There is also a semi-carry, which can also, so to speak, drag the game in the initial and middle stages. But in the late game, they will still be inferior to the carry.
Examples of carry heroes: Anti-Mage, Naga Siren, Phantom Assassin and many others.
Supports are heroes helping their allies. Help consists in slowing down and stoping enemies, healing, as well as in giving allied heroes to get as much gold and experience as possible (by the way, they cannot be transferred in any way). Supporters also make sure that the team is not taken by surprise. These heroes are not so much dependent on objects, so they should buy such items as Smoke of Deceit, Animal Courier, Observer Ward and Sentry Ward (we will talk about some of them later). Supports that are on the same line with Kerry should let all the creeps finish off precisely to the Kerry heroes (this will also be discussed below).
Support heroes: Crystal Maiden, Omniknight, Dazzle, Chen and others.
Gankers are heroes specializing in the quick killing of enemy heroes. The essence of the game for Gankers is to interfere with enemy Cerry heroes, killing them or at least injuring them to go for treatment. This is very important role as the previous ones. After all, it is much better when your Cerry rock well, and the enemy ones did not.
Examples of Ganking heroes: Pudge, Zeus, Batrider and others.
Betting on Dota 2
This discipline is complex in itself, but on a professional level, it is more complicated by several large orders. But, since Dota 2 is what it is, it is subject to in-depth analysis and advanced statistics. For this, professional betting players love her. The line to it, as a rule, is very wide, and you can always choose the best option for the bet. Below are the main types of bets on Dota 2:
Dota 2 Betting - Main Outcome
Matches in Dota 2 are played in the formats of best of 1, best of 3 and best of 5 (competition finals). Bet on the victory of one of the two teams may not be the most reliable. If you make a prematch bet, then in addition to the level of game of the teams, it is worth considering the game form of the teams, the format of the match, motivation, and tournament load. The latter factor can affect both the physical and moral components of the team. If the match is played in the better of 1 format, we recommend that you do not make a prematch bet. Such a format always entails the effect of surprise; anything can happen in it. If you want to bet on such a match, do it in a live line, either during the draft or after it.
Dota 2 Betting - Total Kills on Map
It depends, as a rule, on the playing style of the teams. If teams from the CIS region or Southeast Asia play, it’s worth considering that in the match, with a high degree of probability, there will be a lot of crazy killings - the teams are rampant and sometimes make silly blots. Among European teams, for example, academic teams are more likely to meet, with a clearly defined game plan and their games are often played to the “bottom”. Without a deep analysis of the upcoming game, you should not bet on this outcome.
Handicap on killings on the map
In a match of around equal teams, a handicap for murders 5.5-7.5 will be issued in the line with a plus and a minus, respectively. This means a simple thing - with a high degree of probability you can bet on your favourite with a minus handicap. As a rule, the winning team has a gap of just over five kills in its direction. With care, it is worth approaching in this type of betting to teams that either follow the game plan (see above), or to teams that consciously appear in the early and middle stages of the game as the second number. For example, if you take the OG team, it will have a lot of victories, where they either lost in the killings or do not have a significant advantage. The same can be said about Team Secret.
Total cards and card odds
In a duel of equal teams, if it takes place in the best of 3 format, it is difficult for one team to take two cards in a row - this should be taken into account when betting. The following options are exceptions:
- The team won the first card “in one gate”;
- The team won the first card, winning back the opponent’s incredible advantage;
- The team won the first card, which went 70+ minutes.
Do not underestimate the psychological factor due to the fact that in Dota 2 the average age of a player hangs around the number 20, and some players are 16-17 years old at all. They may be morally unstable.
If you play teams of different classes, and if a team of a higher level is assembled and motivated, you can try to take the total cards “to the bottom”.
Killing a courier, kill-streak, rampage in a specific match.
Making any of these bets before the draft is a blind game. It all depends on the key characters to such outcomes. When it comes to killing a courier, you should look for the presence of such heroes as Bounty Hunter or Nature Prophet at the peak of the team. The heroes of the first position have a predisposition to “godlike” in case the game goes according to the 4 + 1 scheme. “Rampage” is loved by burst heroes with powerful punches or abilities - Tiny, Queen of Pain, Phantom Assassin.
